How long have you been at Frost Cottage?
We moved into Frost Cottage on 1st December 2010! During that week it snowed so much that the country stood still, couldn’t believe it, I was worried we wouldn’t manage to move, but with lots of help from family and friends we managed it! The previous owner had made a snowman by the front door to greet us when we arrived, so cute, I’ll always remember that!

What changes have you made to your home?
First of all we fitted the children’s bedrooms out so it made them feel at home. Then we updated the bathroom with a double shower and double basin. In 2013 we had the garage block built, triple garage, double car port and a log store, it’s equivalent to a 6 bay garage and made from oak. I think Gary overruled me on this as I think it’s every man’s dream to have a “man cave”! After me moaning for a few years wishing for a gorgeous kitchen (and saving the pennies really) we decided to build the extension in 2018 which joins the garage block by a linked roof. We moved the kitchen into this extension from the end of the house and made a lounge, dining area and boot room. We extended the patio which is South facing and have many parties in Summer! In 2020 we converted the “old kitchen” and office into a “annex” / “self contained apartment”, bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, en suite, kitchen, lounge and dining area. Great for visitors!

What’s one of your favourite things about your home?
I love the extension, it means we can entertain, relax and cook in one room. The extension is mainly made of glass and South facing so it can get quite hot on sunny days! But it’s great in the summer opening the bi fold doors and feeling like your sitting in the garden!

Can you tell us any history about Frost Cottage?
The house was built in 1785 and was 6 farm worker cottages, one up one down terrace houses. In 1980 Mr Frost bought all of them and converted them into one property (hence calling it Frost Cottage). However, our previous owner made the big changes as it is today.

What is your interior style?
Gosh I’m not sure what you would call it but it’s kind of contemporary country I think! I’m not a fan of floral designs, more geometric and plain but I do love different textures.

What do you like about the local area?
You never really appreciate where you live but when you stop and think it’s truly beautiful. We live on the edge of Shellbrook going into Moira, no one over looks us and taking the dogs a walk means we just walk to the top of the garden and stroll across the fields without seeing people or cars. It’s also a 20 minute walk into Ashby town, great for local and unique shopping and of course restaurants and pubs! We’re in the National Forest, so there’s so much to do, joining the park run on Saturdays is always a great start to the weekend!

Did you face any challenges whilst renovating the house?
Yes, there was a rejection from a neighbor but this was eventually overruled. The building inspector made the builder go down 2 meters for the garage block footings, which we felt was ridiculous as it was a garage. We also had to reapply for planning three times for the extension link to the garage block, initial plans included it, got rejected, reapplied without the link, got passed, built it, then reapplied again to add the link, then got approved! Ridiculous! Other than that usual challenges when building and restructuring.

What are your plans for the future?
Our next plans are to complete upstairs by using one of the bedrooms as a dressing room and possibly a Jack and Jill en suite.
