Insight 1 – Mr Clarke

He doesn’t like sales talk, Mr Clarke. Although, when telling me about the estate agency he runs with his wife, he is grabbing my attention with anecdotes about estate agents and his views on the property market. He is getting particularly animated about why now is the right time to sell and I’m compelled to sit and listen whilst weighing up whether to put my own house up for sale.

We are sat by the fire in Mr Clarke’s favourite pub discussing Mr & Mrs Clarke Estate Agency. I’m interested to know what drives him and how he thinks he can shakeup the industry.

I don’t like paying over the odds for services but I do love getting great service from someone who is skilled and gets the job done with minimum fuss and and makes me feel good. The manager here makes me feel like a VIP, he will always get me and my family a table and nothing is too much trouble. We have just gone through the selling and buying process for the third time and I was gobsmacked by the cost, the people and the lack of quality. I’m sure it’s getting worse for consumers. I thought, why don’t I start an estate agency? and that was it. Mrs Clarke was recruited over supper and we started asking lots of friends what they wanted from an estate agent. It was soon pretty clear that low fees, like online agents, and excellent customer service from people who were property market experts.

What is your role in Mr & Mrs Clarke?

I have a background in creating businesses and ensuring they succeed. My financial background and my property development history are key to this business. At the heart of every business I have been involved in is that you need to give people great value and a great service. The Mr Clarke team are all about selling homes. We will make sure properties are valued correctly and that we work with sellers to get them what they want. I’m focused on the attention to detail throughout the selling process to prevent any hiccups that can be so devastating when you are selling or buying. Mrs Clarke is the marketing guru.

All high street estate agents are offering great service though. How is Mr & Mrs Clarke different?

They might be offering it but it is widely agreed that it’s not happening. The industry needs a shakeup and at the heart of this needs to be a focus on the consumers. Online agents may charge a low fee but not everyone wants to do the viewings. High street agents will do the viewings but they will charge a small fortune to keep their offices looking fantastic. Mr & Mrs Clarke are lower cost but deliver the highest standards of customer service. We can do this because we have developed a sensible long term plan. Oh and we aren’t greedy.

Is there anything else that you think is different about Mr & Mrs Clarke?

Facts! We deal in facts. When you are buying a property you need to have all the facts. It seems crazy that we spend so much money on something and we don’t know it intimately. The Mr Clarke Team will ask a series of questions before we put a property on the market and these will be included in the brochures and in the advertising. We will also help sellers get all the important information ready so when an offer is made we can get the sale completed quickly and efficiently.
