Lifestyle 4 | Dark Colours

The Pantone Colour of the Year is…. wait for it… Masala. Not the chicken tikka type that Mr Clarke initially assumed. Rather the deep, rich and warming red-brown. It’s full-bodied and conveys glamour and luxury. The award got me into a dark mood and I’m now busy embracing dark blues and dark greys as well as glass of fortified wine that gives the colour of the year its name.
Bland colours look pale in winter light, and old paintwork looks at it’s most tired. If your walls, cupboards or furniture are suffering from paint SAD then I recommend experimenting with a gustier palette of richer colours. Go for it, interior design favours the brave.
The picture of the reading room above shows how a dark colour can add an intense atmosphere to a room and I love it.
