Something for the weekend around Marlborough

Thinking of what to do this weekend? Then here are Phil’s weekend bucket list

  1. Visit the Avebury Stone Circle – Located just a few miles from Marlborough, this prehistoric stone circle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive megalithic monuments in the UK. Nearby is Silbury Hill, Europe’s largest man made prehistoric structure.
  2. Explore the Marlborough Downs – This scenic area of chalk grassland is perfect for hiking, mountain biking and wildlife watching, with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, ancient roads such as The Ridgeway and Wansdyke provide a route map for walkers.
  3. Take a canal boat ride – The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through Pewsey, and there are several companies that offer leisurely boat rides with stunning views of the Wiltshire countryside, call in at a canal side pub for lunch or an overnight stay.
  4. Visit the Wiltshire Museum – Located in Devizes, just a short drive from Marlborough and Pewsey, this museum showcases the rich history of Wiltshire, from prehistoric times to the present day.
