A cuppa with Mrs Clarke

Alex is THE Mrs of Mr & Mrs Clarke. She is the driving force behind the company and she leads us with a grace and style that is refreshing and inspiring. We are proud to have a woman at the helm and we think Alex is the best. How she manages to look so great when leading a business as well as chasing after 2 babies is beyond us mere mortals. A deserved cuppa indeed…

Strictly Business

First and foremost why did you start Mr and Mrs Clarke?
I love homes, so the opportunity to create a business that is all about the home was exciting. But the main reason that I started Mr and Mrs Clarke was because I saw an opportunity to positively disrupt a much maligned industry and add some style and class. My father had been an estate agent and I had heard lots of wonderful stories about how respected agents were. I wanted to add some old school service and some new school style to an industry that has a tarnished reputation. Our amazing Partners are the best in the business in my opinion and we are changing the game.

Favourite type of property?
I like old house that’s full of character but with a modern twist. We most recently lived in a 16th Century cottage (Garden Rose Cottage) that we renovated and made into a modern home. The mix between old and new adds interest.

Your Mr and Mrs Clarke highlight so far?
Each time we welcome a new Partner is a thrill because there is a sense of starting from scratch and building a new business again.

Where’s your favourite town/city?
I adore Paris. The architecture, style, shops, restaurants and the romance. It is a city that I love to slow down in and allow the frenetic Parisians to buzz around whilst I sit down at a cafe and enjoy a coffee or glass of rose. Whenever I think about a weekend trip, Paris is always at the top of my list. We went skiing for our honeymoon and then Paul surprised me with a detour to Paris when I thought we were going home.

A little more personal…

Tea or Coffee?
It’s too tough to call. I start the day with a gentle Yorkshire tea and then move on to harder hitting coffee.

Early bird or night owl?
Early bird though not out of choice! Our 1 and 3 year old children make sure that we get to make the most of the day!

What 3 items would I always find in your fridge?
Milk, Tonic water (the gin is in the cupboard) and loads of veg.

What was your first job?
Waitress. A classic!

Last series you binge-watched?
Bridgerton. If it wasn’t for Mr Clarke I would be after the Duke of Hastings.

Which website do you visit the most?
I seem to always be visiting various children’s clothing stores – lockdown hasn’t stopped them growing. Check out Mutha Hood – we’re part of the Strong Girls Club.
