Do you love bright, airy spaces and clean lines? Add a sprinkle of natural textures and sustainable materials and you have Interior Designer, Lisa Soenoe summed up. We’re thrilled to share her wisdom, knowledge and personality with you. What better way to introduce you than by an interview all about her…We’ll be featuring here quite a bit this year after all.
When did you first become interested in interiors?
I’ve been crazy about interiors for as long as I can remember. I was brought up by my dad, who was very relaxed about me rearranging the furniture in the house (thanks Dad), and one of my favourite woodwork projects at school involved creating a dream miniature bedroom complete with two teeny wooden beds and pink and white floral curtains.
How would you describe your decorating style?
I’d say my style was a combination of California cool and Australian aesthetic: I create bright, airy, comfortable spaces, with personal touches, interesting details and clever, subtle storage solutions. I like natural textures and sustainable materials, and although I love white, I’m not afraid of dark tones or pops of colour.
What’s your favourite interiors store?
H&M Home is my absolute fave. Their accessories are always bang on trend and more than affordable. I was delighted when they announced a furniture range, (I may have just bought a black rattan bench…) and did a little happy dance when they opened up a branch in Birmingham city centre.
Great answer, do you have any other faves?
I love Loaf for squidgy marshmallowy sofas, Cox and Cox for storage solutions, and Spark and Bell for beautiful lighting.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Anywhere and everywhere! Pinterest, Instagram, shops, cafes, restaurants, nature, travel, hotels… There are some beautiful design hotels that I’m dying to go to, Heckfield Place in Hampshire and The Stratford Hotel in East London being just two of them. I stayed at The Pig near Bath just before Christmas and it gave me oodles of inspiration for a project I’m working on.
