Village life

Donisthorpe itself is a quintessential, quiet village, with village store and barbers and there’s a lovely community feel. The family friendly village pub, ‘The Halfway House’ is at the hub of life here. With its great beer garden and selection of local ales, there’s no better place to enjoy Sunday lunch, before exploring the great outdoors with a woodland walk, just on the doorstep. Follow the canal to Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park. There’s a lovely day nursery in the village, caring for babies up to pre-schoolers, and Donisthorpe Primary School, is rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED, with extensive grounds and its own Forest School.

Well connected

There is a co-op store in nearby Moira, and just three miles away is the historic market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, where you’ll find all the large stores, including Marks and Spencer. The town has been awarded purple flag status in successive years. Located in Leicestershire in the East Midlands, Donisthorpe lies just south of the Derbyshire border and has great links to the M42 and A444. The major town of Burton upon Trent is just seven miles away, and the village sits around 100 miles north west of London. Aside from the great outdoors, there’s a wide choice of things to do just a stone’s throw away by car, with a leisure centre, lido, cinema, and children’s playbarn close by. And Twycross Zoo is around ten minutes away; the only zoo in the UK where you can see all types of great apes, from chimpanzees to gorillas, and many endangered species.
