Well connected

The village of Machen is nestled 3 miles east of Caerphilly and lies in the wooded
Rhymney River valley, sat below the nearby peak of Mynydd Machen. There is a
remarkable sense of seclusion, with far reaching views, the village is surrounded by
nature. Machen is on a fantastically beautiful and wild green triangle between
Caerphilly, Newport and Cardiff; yet despite the peaceful setting the village is
deceptively well connected. The bustling centre of Newport can be reached in less
than 20 minutes by car, and Cardiff in just over 30 minutes. For daily essentials,
you’ll find the local Co-op and Machen Stores have you covered. For a bigger shop
head towards either Caerphilly or Newport.
If you want to eat like a local, we recommend Maenllwyd Inn pub in nearby Rudry,
where you can enjoy a meal on the sunbathed terrace. The 400-year-old former
farmhouse commands a stunning ridge top position with views across the rolling
Rhymney Valley.

Local Life

The rural setting of the village is unrivalled, there are plenty of walks and cycling
trails moments from the front door. If hiking and mountain walking is your thing, the
nearby Coed Craig Ruperra Nature Reserve and Sirhowy Valley Country Park are
both equidistance from Machen.
The popular Village Hall provides playgroups, exercise classes and a craft club to
keep everyone entertained. For educational needs, Machen Primary School, Wycliff
Independent Christian School are both within walking distance, while secondary
schools can be found a short distance away in Newport and Caerphilly.
