Mr Clarke thinks :
The split staircase is such a cool, quirky element in this impeccably renovated cottage.

Down a quiet Shrewley lane is the distinctive Bluebell Cottage. As you stroll from the drive to the private entrance, a namesake plaque proudly welcomes you home. A secretly spacious four-bedroom home, the cottage begins in a cosy entrance hall with a WC, leading into an open plan living space to the left. Here, the lounge and dining area wrap around into the kitchen, utility room, and garage. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, all beamed with pitched ceilings, an ensuite off the main bedroom, and a family bathroom.

The flow of the living space is one of the most appreciated aspects of this home. The open plan extends from the entrance through to the back wall of bifold doors, giving a sweeping view of the patio, garden, and statuesque trees in the neighbouring wood. Adding to the charm of Bluebell Cottage are the beautifully curved walls, a historical counterpart to the LED ceiling spotlights on dimmer switches that ensure the lighting is always just right.

The open plan design of the downstairs has the wood burner at the heart of the living space, visible from each side of the house. Just in front of the crackling fire is the perfect spot for late-night chats and a glass of wine on a chilly evening. Underneath the nearby stairwell is a discreet space for board games or a Fortnum’s hamper filled with blankets.

In the day, the sun streams through the bifold doors, lavishing the downstairs with natural light. There’s space for a long table in the dining area, ideal for the holidays and celebrations. It’s a natural entertaining space for animated dinners and evenings around the table with family or a quick drink before donning wellies for a walk to the pub with friends.

Around the corner, the kitchen design is a bold departure from the anticipated farmhouse style, a divergence that feels both fresh and delightfully unexpected. Complete with an integral fridge, induction hob, and an extractor fan, the sleek, industrial kitchen is a juxtaposition of wood and metal elements, creating a rich, moody colour palette - sophisticated and utterly cool. The polished wall of fitted units houses the hob and sink, and the custom-made central island adds extra counter space, along with a designated drinks and nibbles perch for parties. Past the island, the kitchen aesthetic is carried through to the utility room cabinets and from here, a door opens into a spacious garage.

Mrs Clarke loves :
How the open plan downstairs effortlessly flows from the front door through to the garden.

As you make your way up the stairs, the honey-hued wooden floors suddenly transform into not one but two gorgeous staircases, a quirky yet sophisticated element that adds to the character of the house. Striking beams catch your eye while you choose which staircase to explore first.

The right staircase takes you up to the main and second bedrooms. Above the main bedroom’s door is a bluebell in a stained-glass window, commemorating the cottage’s name. Sunlight streams through the glass window into this bedroom, which has ample fitted wardrobes to fit all sartorial desires, with a convenient shoe cupboard to boot. The gorgeous exposed beams and view of the garden from this bedroom add to its appeal. During the most recent renovation, a dreamy rain shower was added to the ensuite. Add some eucalyptus stems to turn your morning routine into a botanical paradise escape. Thankfully, there are double glazed windows so you can sing to your heart’s content. Next door is the second bedroom, which overlooks the front of the house. There is room for a double bed or two single beds, and the fitted wooden wardrobe adds a cosy quality to the room.

Walking up the left staircase leads you to the third and fourth bedrooms, as well as a family bathroom. The third double bedroom has a fantastic view of the lawned garden and further woods. If there are any nature lovers in the family, this is a great spot for birdwatching. The fourth bedroom with its Velux window is the room to be in when it’s raining. The soothing sound of the raindrops is the ultimate white noise to fall asleep to. The cupboards running along one side of the room offer much-appreciated storage, as well as a decorative space.

Between these beautiful rooms is the main family bathroom with a shower over a lovely bath, ideal for a restful soak after a busy day or long walk in the fields. In this bathroom, the rustic tongue and groove door serves as a reminder of the home’s previous pastoral heritage. The best part about this floor: the quirky crow’s rooftop lookout at the very top of the house.

The lawned garden serves as the backdrop for family parties and celebrations where little legs can run around. The bifold doors sweep open onto the tiled patio where you can bask on the rattan furniture in the summer months. By the kitchen stable door, there are log stores and ample room for a keen gardener’s potted plants. Hopping across the paved path to the end of the garden, there is a little blue gate, which leads you to open fields, a small orchard, and the beautiful Shrewley countryside. This direct access to the outdoors is ideal for walkers, runners, and mini adventurers. Welcome home.

Shrewley

Warwickshire countryside at it's prettiest

Country Living Estate Agent

Shrewley is one of those perfect little villages where you feel serenely isolated in the middle of gorgeous countryside, but you are in fact better connected than most places in the UK. You can be in Warwick or Solihull within a few minutes or you can be zipping into London from Warwick Parkway. For international jet setters, you are 22 minutes from Birmingham Airport where you can whizz to Geneva or sunnier climates. For the drivers, the M40, M5 and M1 are close by, which opens up the country nicely for work or getting around.

Mr Clarke loves the fact that there are two pubs within walking distance and many others within a ten minute drive. "The Case is the best spot for a quiet pint and a chat with pals. The Ox is ideal for a family Sunday lunch. It's great to have two pubs so close to your doorstop."

There are several National Trust properties close by; Baddelsey Clinton and Packwood House. Mrs Clarke loves the kitchen garden at Packwood and the cafe at Baddelsey. Wroxall Abbey is the 12th Century country seat of Sir Christopher Wren, which is now a luxury hotel. The Abbey provides the perfect backdrop for walks around Hay Wood.

There is a great choice of schools, from highly regarded local primaries in Lapworth and Ferncumbe to top class independent schools in Warwick, Solihull and Leamington.

We caught up with one of the Range Rover, Barbour wearing local yummy mummies to hear why she loves Shrewley. "I can drop the kids off at school in Warwick then head to The Ardencote, which is the best gym I've ever been a member of. The village shop has all the day to day necessities we need in between the Ocado shop. At weekends we adore The Orange Tree in Chadwick End or having everyone around at ours for supper."

A pub, lots of country walks, the friendliest community and a village shop that serves delicious samosas... what more do you need?
