A Splendid Town House

Darren Haughton

Sitting proudly in one of Stamford's more sought after roads you find this splendid Edwardian town house, full of period architecture, charm, light and space. The high ceilings in the large rooms are complemented by original detailing and there is a sense of history and calm throughout the home. We see an exciting opportunity for a discerning family to enjoy the house as it is now or to create a new home fit for a modern lifestyle.

The house has many period features including fireplaces, sash windows, ceiling roses and picture rails and the property has been extended over the years turning it from a functional working residence to a spacious and light filled family home. Better still, it’s only a short stroll from the shops, bars and restaurants that Stamford has to offer.

Walking through the front door you enter a vast hallway with splendid tiled floor and ceiling architrave, which stretches to the back of the house where glazed double doors open out to the rear courtyard. The hallway leads you four ways - to the lounge, sitting room, dining room and the kitchen. A beautiful staircase takes you straight up to the first floor. Both the lounge and sitting room are positioned at the front of the house and you are bathed in sunlight as both have large front bays with original style sash windows. The rooms each feature ornate fireplaces and the lounge has an old pine recess cupboard ideal for showing off your finest whisky collection. The dining room is positioned to the back of the house and has glazed double doors to connect you to the outside.

The kitchen flows through to the utility area, office/studio and a further office beyond. The larger office/studio will be a tranquil place to work from, especially during warmer days when you can open up the large glazed doors, which open out to the courtyard area.

Back to the hallway and up the staircase, there is a large master bedroom with two large sash windows letting natural light flood in, three further bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom is more like a boutique hotel suite - we love it.

Outside, and to the rear of the property is a two-tiered garden. A pretty walled courtyard area adjoins the rear of the house with fish pond, integrated seating area and lots of space for all your favourite shrub pots and plants. Steps then lead up to a further lawned area with various trees and shrub borders. Both garden areas are enclosed and provide a high degree of privacy.

This truly is a house that just keeps giving and the opportunities are endless for its new owners to make it their own

Summary

  • Style : An elegant Edwardian home in a great part of town
  • Highlights : Beautiful high ceilings, original detailing, natural light, 4 reception rooms, 4 bedrooms, kitchen and a lovely garden
  • Three words : Location. Character. Possibilities.
  • Our favourite part The light filled rooms, character and endless opportunities...

Location

Splendid Town

Local Life in Lovely Stamford

Voted one of the top 5 locations to live in the UK, the Georgian town of Stamford can afford to boast about its beauty and culture. Romantic, historic and incredibly desirable, the town offers so much in the way of heritage and with over 400 Grade I and II listed buildings, character and charm lies round every corner.

Within a short hop and step from each other are an abundance of independent and brand name shops, cool bars, fantastic array of restaurants and funky cafes. If you like your tea served in a traditional tea pot with a sweet something on the side then the Crown Hotel is for you - even your well-behaved dog can expect a welcome treat! Whatever your tipple, you can’t beat a pint served at The Toby Norris - with cosy tucked away rooms and homemade pizzas bigger than your table, you will not be disappointed! Now there is nowhere better to enjoy a hub of chatter, laughter, a proper gin and of course fizz than at The Wine Bar..highly recommended! and for those that enjoy a good Sunday roast the Bull & Swan serves delicious roast dinners and their traditional puddings are something to behold - they even have an outdoor cinema in the summer months! The best treat by far to start any celebration is a cocktail at the world-famous George Hotel. Whether you dine in the Garden Room or the main restaurant, the food, service and atmosphere is second to none.

So what else is there? – There are antique shops, a Theatre, Leisure centre and gyms and importantly Waitrose and M&S are here. There is the stunningly beautiful Burghley House and estate which holds many annual events such as the Burghley Horse Trials, Game Fair, and the extremely physically challenging “Rat Race”.

Period charm without the drama

There are some fantastic schools for kiddly winks of all ages and private schooling is available in town at the renowned Stamford Endowed Schools.

Commuting couldn’t be easier, it’s a short walk to the towns very traditional Railway Station which provides access to all local and national rail services. London, amazingly is only 55 mins by train and 1 ½ hours in the car (well assuming no roadworks on the way!), the A1 runs just to the west of the town, giving easy access to both north and south.

Stamford is surrounded by some breath-taking countryside and bringing an element of this to your door we have the Stamford Meadows which runs alongside the River Welland to help you blow off the cobwebs or to just enjoy a long Sunday ramble. Rutland Water, Europe's largest man-made lake, is approximately 5 miles from town and offers an exciting day of water sports and facilities including fly-fishing and sailing.

  • Post Office: 1
  • Stores: A plenty – Stamford has many fantastic independent shops mixed with a few high end branded stores
