Little Shrewley
Local life

This three bedroom, detached property has been extended and architecturally re-designed into a stunning home that has a natural flow, balanced rooms and space for everything you need for life in the countryside.

Mr Clarke

When I turn into Ludlows Lane I instantly feel calm. It’s a quiet, no-through road that has a row of pretty houses facing open fields. The only noise is the tweeting of the welcoming birds. Woodbine Cottage has been fully renovated by a talented team of architects and builders. You cannot fail to be impressed with the stunning facade that fits into the landscape. Pulling the car into the drive and into the traditional oak framed carport is easy and you feel at home.

When you walk through the oak porch and open the front door you feel like you are opening a present. A shiny, new present. The entrance hall is large and light, providing lots of room for dumping the shopping and hanging your coat up. It's then through the hall into the kitchen, and what a kitchen.

"I love the kitchen. It’s perfectly proportioned and has everything you could need, and it’s all new. Floating island with wooden worktops, Belfast sink, chalky grey cabinets, space for a kitchen table and French doors that look out to the gorgeous garden and the rolling fields beyond. Kitchen heaven!"

The kitchen includes integrated dishwasher and fridge freezer, oven and hob. You may be wondering where the washing machine and tumble dryer will go. Well, the thoughtful designer has built-in a large cupboard in the hallway that fits a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a vacuum cleaner, ironing board and lots of shoes. It’s a very nice touch that you will only get from a professionally designed home like this.

When you can drag yourself away from the views from the kitchen window you can have a look out of the living room window onto another rural panorama. The living room is a delight. It’s large enough to host a party and intimate enough for a cosy night in front of a movie. The fireplace can be fitted with a log burner, an open fire or left as it is with ornaments and flowers. The pure wool carpet has been untouched by dirty shoes and it’s just waiting for it’s first owners.

There is one more door downstairs, which you'd think is just a small cupboard. You are surprised that there is a downstairs cloakroom and WC inside. Another cleverly designed aspect of this home that is made for modern living.

It’s then up the stairs to the landing, which overlooks the garden and those beautiful views to the rear. The first floor has three bedrooms. Three very good sized bedrooms, there is no poky box room in here. Oh no! The master bedroom is an en-suite and boasts built-in wardrobes, soft carpets and plenty of space for more storage. The wide window overlooks fields to the front and it will be a real treat to wake up to your very own countryside vista. The en-suite shower room has a floor to ceiling tiled walk-in shower with a huge shower head that will be a real treat for it’s first user.

The two other bedrooms are very similarly sized and can easily fit a double bed and wardrobes. They would also be perfect as a quiet study or nursery or could comfortably fit two single beds or a bunk bed in.

The bathroom looks like something out of a luxury magazine. The soft grey painted wood panelling, cream tiles and the ledge, just big enough for a book and glass of wine, make you just want to get the candles lit and lie in the big tub. In warmer months it will be idyllic to have the window open and listen to the birds whist soaking away the day's stresses and strains.

"Ludlows Lane is a pretty, no-through lane and is one of the few roads in the area where children could play like we used to. Although they will probably prefer playing in the big enclosed back garden."

One thing that really impresses me about Woodbine Cottage is the space, both inside and outside. Because the home has been reconfigured with thought about how we live, it has more than enough space for a family and all their belongings. The carport could easily be turned into a garage, if the new owners wanted a workshop or more storage. There is a shed at the bottom of the garden for a lawnmower and gardening tools. The drive can fit four cars and there is also parking along the road. The back garden is fully enclosed and a dog would be in heaven to freely roam around without it's owners worrying about it.

      Location

Local Life In & Around Little Shrewley

      Warwickshire countryside at it's prettiest

Little Shrelwey is one of those tiny places within a group of villages. Shrewley Parish consists of Little Shrewley, Hatton Station, Station Road, Five Ways and Shrewley Common. The villages are in the heart of the Forest of Arden about ten miles from Solihull. You feel serenely isolated in the middle of forest, farm land and ancient woods, but you are in fact better connected than most places in the UK. For international jet setters, you are 22 minutes from Birmingham Airport where you can whizz to Geneva or sunnier climates. The closest rail stations are Hatton or Warwick Parkway, both of which have regular trains to London Marylebone and Birmingham. For the drivers, the M40, M5 and M1 are close by, which opens up the country nicely for work or getting around.

Mr Clarke loves the fact that there are two pubs within walking distance and many others within a ten minute drive.

"The Case is the best spot for a quiet pint and a chat with pals. The Ox is ideal for a family Sunday lunch. It's great to have two pubs so close to your doorstop."

Head five miles north west of Warwick, along some pretty country lanes, past some beautiful woodland and you will arrive in the rural bliss that is Little Shrewley. There are lots of pubs, an old abbey, miles and miles of walks, a post office and even a garden centre on your door step. What more do you need?

There are several National Trust properties close by; Baddelsey Clinton and Packwood House. Mrs Clarke loves the kitchen garden at Packwood and the cafe at Baddelsey. Wroxall Abbey is the 12th Century country seat of Sir Christopher Wren, which is now a luxury hotel. The Abbey provides the perfect backdrop for walks around Hay Wood.

There is a great choice of schools, from highly regarded local primaries in Lapworth to top class independent schools in Warwick, Solihull and you aren't too far from Bromsgrove.

We caught up with one of the Range Rover, Barbour wearing local yummy mummies to hear why she loves Shrewley.

"I can drop the kids off at school in Warwick then head to The Warwickshire Country Club in Leek Wooton, which is the best gym I've ever been a member of. There is a creche, pool, spa and spin studio. I can then drive back through Kenilworth to pick up groceries at Waitrose and be back in Shrewley in 15 minutes. It's a great place to live. At weekends we adore The Orange Tree in Chadwick End or having everyone around at ours for supper."

      • Closest village/town: Shrewley, Lapworth, Rowington, Hatton
      • Post Office: 1
      • Stores: Shrewley Stores has everything you need including some lovely sandwiches
      • Supermarket: Waitrose is 15 minutes away, Sainsburys in Warwick is a little closer
      • Pubs: The Case is Altered for a pint, Durham Ox for lunch, Tom O' The Wood for the fire and a drink with the lovely owners or The Boot or Orange Tree for a glamorous glass of wine.
      • Walks: Endless walks from the doorstep to keep the dog happy
