Local life

A handsome 1930’s family home with modern style.

Amanda Richards

As you approach 14 Fosseway, you realise why houses don’t come up for sale here very often and why it’s such a desirable location in our favourite bijoux city. Positioned on a quiet tree lined road it’s hard to imagine that you’re less than a 10-minute walk to the town centre with its array of shops and restaurants. This stunning 5-bedroom detached home has been recently renovated by the current owners to provide space, style and light, and no expense has been spared. It’s simply immaculate and ready for you to move into. Once you’ve parked your car on the large gated driveway, and entered the front door, you can see the wonderful flow of the house from the spacious light filled hallway with its wooden floor and designer oak staircase.

Head through to the vast sitting room where you can take in the view to the private back garden framed by bi-folding doors onto the patio – perfect for entertaining but more of that later. For cosy nights in, the room has a stunning remote-control fireplace which is utterly mesmerising – curl up with a good book and your favourite tipple and you’ll never want to leave. This beautiful room is filled with light and is a great size for social gatherings. Back into the hall way and you find another living room with plenty of room for comfy sofas and designer touches or alternatively it could be used as a children’s playroom. Whatever you decide it’s great to have a choice of reception rooms.

At the front of the house is the dining room, again with wooden floors, a log burner gas fireplace and our favourite, a window seat for those rare moments we can shut ourselves away and have a bit of peace and watch the world drift by. Just off the dining room is the kitchen with a terracotta tiled floor, ideal for mucky paws, and every integrated appliance you could wish for including a large American fridge freezer and room for a small kitchen table. The utility room follows on from the kitchen, with a storage cupboard, which could easily convert to a pantry, a smart cloakroom and direct access to the garden.

The garden is truly a great size for everyone to enjoy. The vast patio area is perfect for outdoor entertaining with surrounding lights and a water feature. The huge lawn is surrounded by established borders with plenty of shrubs and trees. And there’s even a summer house right at the bottom of the garden with a couple of benches, which is a real oasis of tranquillity.

But that’s not all this beautiful outdoor space has to offer. There’s a substantial brick garage which has already been sectioned off inside and is ripe to turn into a workshop and office space – there’s even a dog bath/shower in situ. However, the current owners have gone that one step further and had plans drawn up and recently approved to develop the garage space further along with a single storey extension. With the planned shower room this would be a fabulous addition to this already spacious home.

Climb the staircase to discover the surprising space upstairs. The landing is a fantastic light space with room for a small desk or occasional chair to add to the lovely décor. The master-bedroom is grand with a tranquil atmosphere of a boutique hotel and boasts a sleek ensuite by Luxury Interiors of Little Aston.

There are 4 further bedrooms, 2 are doubles with fitted wardrobes and 2 singles, one of which is currently used as an office. The family bathroom continues the boutique hotel feel of upstairs with its walk-in shower with integrated tiled seating, free standing bath and all recently completed to an exceptionally high-end designer standard.

We absolutely love this house, its great and in a great location, there’s a real sense of warmth throughout, it just waiting for its new family.

Location

An independent vibe with serious history

Foodie Heaven

Lichfield is a stunning little city with a magnificent cathedral, loads of history, jam packed with pubs, a great park and a festival almost on every month, and then there’s the Morris Dancers – it’s that English and we simply love it, it’s got everything here you could possibly need.

It’s always been a bit of a destination for a night out as there loads of top notch restaurants, many independent, be it the Wine House or a few miles out The Boat at Summerhill, you’ll always have a great selection to choose from and many a bar to go to before or afterwards. It really is fast becoming a real foodie town with 2 food festivals a year packing in the crowds. And if you like your entertainment a little more highbrow the music and literature festivals will suit you fine as well as the odd fringe festival throughout the year.

The youngsters are well catered for with a superb park right in the centre of the town, its so convenient you can grab a flat white from one of the many funky coffee shops before you exert your energies on all Beacon Park has to offer: tennis courts, pitch and putt, bowling green, a creative play area for the tots as well as beautiful gardens to admire. There’s a theatre too named after one of Lichfield’s many famous residents, David Garrick and the medieval Guildhall is a superb music venue.

Great schools, lots of culture and lovely people

Around the town there’s also a strong independent vibe of shops, our personal fav’s being Worth Brothers Wine Merchants and the Kitchen Shop full of every gadget you didn’t realise you needed. Of course, there’s a Waitrose in Lichfield and its huge – perfect! If you’re in need of the bigger named chains, the out of town shopping area in Tamworth is just a couple of miles away and it even has the holy grail of shops, John Lewis.

If you feel the need to get active there’s loads of sporting clubs and health clubs to join or simply get out in the fresh air with your pooch on one of many lovely walks right on your doorstop, be it along the canal towpaths or meandering around the beautiful streets you’ve got it all. For the more adventurous the Derbyshire Dales isn’t too far away for some serious hiking in the great outdoors.

There’s a great community spirit here, many residents never move and if they do they usually can’t wait to move back. The schools, both State and Independent are all good and this little City is incredibly well connected. Two train stations, with trains to London Euston in less than 80 minutes and Birmingham in 35 minutes – what could be better? If you’re driving the M6 Toll is close by, just over half an hour to Birmingham, with Leicester and Derby an hour.

Lichfield really is a perfect little City.

  • Post Office: 1
  • Stores: Loads of independent shops from Worth Brothers Wine to Bore Street Bakery
  • Supermarket: lots in Lichfield but our favourite - Waitrose of course
