Alan Gall thinks:
Owning a traditional Victorian home with easy commute to the city centre and great access to the amazing local amenities is a dream for many - myself included. As a young child I would have loved exploring the gardens and secret stairway. As a young adult I would live the convenience of the access to Shawlands or the city centre and as an adult it would be a house I would look forward to going home to everyday.
This traditional four-bedroom semi-detached house is filled with original features and charm, with a great balance between formal living and cosy family areas. It is a house that everyone would feel at home in.
Entering through the main stain glassed front door you immediately are met by a Rennie Mackintosh inspired hallway, with stunning mahogany wood panelling and staircase. From the hallway you have access to the lounge with its raised position and great view through the six-pane bay window over the front garden.
Through the hallway enter the kitchen with its convenient square shape there is more than enough room for a dining table, a plethora or workspace and a large range style cooker and it is topped off with a walk-in larder which is a must in any family kitchen. The family room with its patio doors to the conservatory and views to the south-facing rear garden is cosy and quiet room ideal for kids to play or to relax with a movie and a glass of wine after a hard day. The utility room and second downstairs WC is adjacent to the family room and has access to the side garden which leads to the detached garage.
This first of the four large bedrooms is conveniently located on the ground floor making it ideal for guests or for anyone who would prefer their bedroom on the ground floor. This charming room with many original features, including an original fireplace, cornicing, and views to the rear garden.
As you make your way up the U-Shaped stairway you are immediately stuck by the stunning Rennie-Mackintosh styled panelled stain glass window, with a well sized landing which can easily accommodate some seating. As you reach the main upstairs floor, you have the further three large double bedrooms all with charm and original features accessed directly from the upstairs gallery hallway. The main family bathroom can also be found on this floor.
As with every home there needs to be that truly unique secret. Hidden behind door in the upstairs hall there is a secret staircase giving access to the floored attic room, currently this is used as the kid’s secret hideaway, but could easily be converted to additional bedrooms, a home office or gym.
