Mike thinks:
Perfectly blending old with the new, this cottage makes an original family home with a contemporary twist.

You can’t improve on perfection. But you can add charming period features, four generous bedrooms and a sizeable garden, before blending with a classic, contemporary interior. This gorgeous, double fronted, stone cottage has character in bucket loads.

Mike loves:
The interior, with its muted tones and chic touches, is simply gorgeous and wouldn’t look out of place in a style magazine.

What is now a beautiful, spacious family home was originally a working post office and separate cottage. Set back from the road, it’s bordered by an attractive stone wall, adorned with plants and flowers that change with the seasons. There’s a nod back to its origins with the post box sited in the wall and a very fitting ‘post box red’ front door.

Spread over three floors, the interior flows beautifully and exudes calmness, thanks to the subtle colour palette used throughout. The sympathetic renovation now offers space and flexibility for both daily life and entertaining, and period charm intertwines with contemporary style.

Sleek, dove grey cabinets feature in the kitchen, with its clean lines and high-end finish. Contrasting grey quartz worktops and inset sink add further modernity. Appliances are integrated, and include an impressive triple oven, dishwasher, induction hob, fridge freezer and even a wine cooler to keep the sauvignon blanc perfectly chilled. A triple feature window frames the beautiful view of the rear garden and open fields beyond. It’s pretty as a picture. And we mentioned entertaining – well prepare to set the atmosphere when hosting friends and family with built-in Bluetooth speakers and mood lighting.

You’ll want to throw open the bi-fold doors in the dining area and enjoy a morning coffee on the elevated decking area through to evening apéritifs – with the outdoor lighting, it’s the perfect place to kick back and relax, no matter what the time.

There’s a natural stone bay window in the lounge, which is beautifully light and airy, and the feature wooden door creates a lovely, homely feel. A soft grey panelled wall soothes the senses in the separate sitting room and garden views stream in through the picture window. Get cosy in front of the open fireplace with steaming mugs of cocoa and enjoy!

Period and modern touches feature in the sizeable basement with its ample headroom. There’s a utility room for all your household goods and a Belfast sink, together with original walls and floors, which ooze character. The corner room has been transformed into a professional music studio, complete with acoustic system. Spotlights are modern, and walls are a soft blue, adding a splash of colour. You’ll also find two generous storage rooms with access to the garden; both of which could be converted into additional studios or living areas.

Upstairs, off the landing, are three double bedrooms and a good sized single. There’s a mix of beautiful, stripped original floors, sublime views and fitted wardrobes. It’s also worth noting that the loft is large and offers the possibility of future development, if desired. Stylish flooring and soft grey panelled walls feature in the family bathroom, which includes a vanity unit and bath with shower. A window and skylight ensure that the room is bathed with natural light.

The south facing rear garden, is a whopper, with endless countryside views stretching as far as the eye can see. Planted with mature trees and shrubs, it’s south facing, too. So you can revel in every last ray of sunshine from dawn to dusk. A tarmac basketball court provides a dedicated area for play, and there’s a large shed providing plenty of outdoor storage space.

Seating areas are peppered along the way, as you amble down the winding flagstone path. Homemade jam enthusiasts can take their pick from a plethora of fruit trees, including cherry, apple, pear, gooseberry, raspberry, quince, damson and strawberry! Scones and clotted cream, anyone?

Our favourite part
It’s got to be the feature post box and the quirky origins of the cottage. We love a good name, and who wouldn’t want to call the Old Post Office home?
