Papplewick

It has a very rural, countryside feel despite its proximity to the city

Papplewick

Papplewick is a small, charming village located a few miles north of Nottingham city centre. It has a very rural, countryside feel despite its proximity to the city.

One of the biggest draws is the picturesque scenery and abundance of green spaces surrounding the village. Papplewick is nestled in the beautiful Leen Valley area, with rolling hills, woods, and fields providing a lovely rural backdrop. The village itself has a conservation area with many historic sandstone cottages and buildings dating back centuries.

Despite its small size, the village has a real sense of community spirit. There are active village groups, an annual village show, and community events held at facilities like the village hall and the village-owned Papplewick Pumping Station museum.

For amenities, Papplewick has a traditional English pub (The Griffins Head), a church, and a village store/post office. However, for major shopping, entertainment, and other facilities, residents travel to nearby towns like Hucknall or Nottingham itself.

Transport links are fairly good, with easy access to the A610 and A611 roads connecting to the M1 motorway. There are also regular bus services into Nottingham.

The primary drawbacks are Papplewick’s limited amenities within the village itself and the fairly high housing prices commensurate with other desirable Nottinghamshire villages. But for those prizing countryside living while still being close to the city, Papplewick offers a very attractive village lifestyle.
