Mike thinks:
The layout of the house encourages the family to spend time together. This is a really sociable home.

This 4 bedroom L-shaped bungalow is a rare find - it combines an impressive 2000 sq ft of internal space and it sits proudly on a large plot.

Mike loves:
The garden is a gorgeous space. The fruit trees and mature borders provide a calming backdrop to life. It would be great to get everyone around for a bbq and sit on the patio.

The property has been cleverly designed and well built to provide light-filled spaces that connect with the outside. The quiet rural location lends itself to a peaceful life but if you need of the bright lights you can be in Cardiff or Newport easily, or slipping off to Bristol or further afield via the M4.

Spread over one level, the home is divided into a mix of open-plan spaces and private intimate rooms. The kitchen has enough space for the whole family to be together and there is room for the most flamboyant of home cooks. Overlooking the garden, the space has plenty of units for storage and has that working triangle that everyone longs for. There is also a large living room that is ideal for entertaining or curling up with a good movie. This is a vast space that has been cleverly split into zones - dining, lounging, sitting in front of the fireplace and accessing the garden. It has a stone fireplace and views over the garden through patio doors.

Elsewhere there's lots of storage space in the utility room, integral garage (with insulated automatic doors) and detached outside store room that keeps everything in the rest of the house looking neat and tidy. Four bedrooms and a luxurious bathroom complete the internal living space. The bathroom has recently undergone a luxury makeover and it is more like a five star spa than a normal bathroom. There is a separate shower, a corner bath and double sinks for his and her.

It is outside where things start to get really exciting - the garden wraps around the property and there is interest at every corner. The beautiful planting and established borders create a bucolic atmosphere that encourages you to sit down and soak up the fresh air. There is a greenhouse for nurturing seeds, a gorgeous secluded patio that is perfect for alfresco dining and a great detached store that could be converted into an annex or office with planning permission.

St. Brides

Friendly vibes

St. Brides

St. Brides or St. Brides Wentlooge is a small hamlet to the south west of the city of Newport on an area known as the levels – towards the coast on the Bristol Channel. This is rural life within easy reach of the urban hotspots at its very best.

Like most of the places on the Wentlooge Level, St Brides lies on land behind the sea wall, reclaimed from the Bristol Channel, and criss-crossed by large and small drainage ditches, known locally as “reens”.

The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Of particular interest to science due to the rare species of fauna or flora it contains, making everywhere you look full of colour, nature and loveliness.

Here are a few of our favourite things…

The Lighthouse Inn -Behind the car park in the Welsh coast path and if you go up on the ridge there are great views across the Bristol Channel, You always meet some friendly locals up there. It’s a great place for dog walking.

Shipwreck Cafe serves breakfasts until 2pm ish. The chap running the cafe is a genuinely lovely man and his breakfasts are delicious and freshly cooked. There’s also lovely walks along the estuary of the Severn/ Bristol Channel.

For families, Walnut Tree Farm Park has something to offer children of all ages. It has been a working farm for over 50 years and has opened to the public as a farm park in the last few years. They boast a wide variety of animals including horses, lamas, goats, pigs, ducks, alpacas, donkeys, sheep, highland cattle and our friendly reindeer.

Peterstone golf course is just down the road, its flat so a great walk, even if you are not very good at golf!
