Mr Clarke thinks :
The quality of the workmanship across the property is stunning
This stunning art deco property sits behind smart gates on one of the most desirable roads in the city. The house has all the stylised lines and interior flourishes you would expect, as well as being recently renovated to a luxurious standard. It’s quite simply a family home that offers ample space, bedrooms, and storage, plus numerous qualities that make a house feel like a home.
There are five bedrooms, open plan living spaces, and private rooms set over three floors, as well as a large garden at the front and rear and an annexe. There are 3 bathrooms, two kitchens, a sauna & steam room, a study, and a basement that is used as a private apartment.
The private apartment on the lower ground floor is designed to act independently if you need it but fits seamlessly into the rest of the house too. Walking in through the door provides access to a large double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a fabulous lounge, and a kitchen that has amazing views. There’s a sauna here too.
On the ground floor, there’s an incredible kitchen with all the mod cons you could dream of including two wine coolers, granite worktops, gas hob, and heated floors plus a pantry which is very now. There’s also a light-filled living room that leads out on a balcony with original balustrades that give easy access to the beautiful garden and stunning views. Off the living room is an enchanting covered balcony that sits on the southeastern flank. Typical of the home's archetypal art deco style are the Crittal windows that give it charm and make it perfect for drinking a glass of wine as the sun sets.
Mrs Clarke loves :
The stunning interior and gorgeous garden
As you take in the impressive hall and staircase you arrive on the first floor to find four more bedrooms that all have an individual style. One of the rooms has just some of the most spectacular views of the “the Twmp” and the surrounding countryside that’s typical of homes in this area. The family bathroom is here too which is a real sanctuary.
At the front of the house is a cobbled drive with plenty of parking for your cars. This leads to the garden that has different places for entertaining and taking in the views. At the bottom of the garden is the annex that’s not your normal annex - it's a sports hall! The perfect addition to a family home.
- Three words : Modern family home.
Our favourite part
Leafy suburb of the city
Surrounding this beautiful home is a mixture of prominent architecture, set high up with great views of Gaer Fort, Cardiff Bay and the beautiful Severn estuary. Within a 5-minute walk you have spectacular views across Ridgeway and links to walks towards Fourteen Locks, Allt-yr-ryn nature reserve and Jews Wood (which is just getting an upgrade). On a Summer's day skip to the park with the pooch and visit Belle Vue or Tredegar, or if you're fancying a day trip with the little ones then you're close enough to the motorway so it's no bother at all. You're so close to the local connections that almost anything is possible! On a misty morning we recommend heading to The Cafe at Ridgeway to have a latte and a natter with friends. There is a wealth of toddler groups, clubs, social activities, fitness classes as well as Stow Park tennis club - making this a great place for families.
Nature is all around. This is the ideal place to live a great quality life. We like to get our heart pumping by climbing the hill at the top of Ridgeway and admiring the canal. It's the perfect place to play eye spy and watch barges (don't forget to grab yourself the best bacon sandwich at Fourteen Locks Canal café). There's something for everyone here. For fancy occasions head to Gem42 on the bridge where Anna and Pasquale enthuse guests with their sumptuous Italian fair or pop into the Ridgey and have a chat with Tom. Go on a Tuesday for their infamous steak nights, heaven!! If you're after a celebration gift (for someone special or even yourself!) then pop over to the lovely Machen interiors over in Caerleon - it's a beautiful independent homeware store which we're sure you will love. Walk your kids to exceptional Glasllwch Primary and within 15 minutes have walked to the station and be on train into Cardiff, Bristol or London. If the car is more your mode then the M4 is just 2 mins away where you can be in London in just 2 hours.
Pretty and well connected
