Gemma thinks:
This home is the perfect balance between an idyllic countryside lifestyle and links to the city and beyond.

This property has potential oozing out of it. This 3-bedroom semi-detached home is the perfect renovation project and an opportunity to create a home to your own exacting standards.

Gemma loves:
The potential! The house is the perfect blank canvas for its new owners to make their mark.

The handsome façade of No.10 stands proudly on a quiet and well-kept road, close to all the village amenities that Cookham has to offer. The driveway provides useful off-street parking with an option for a further parking space to the side. A covered porch welcomes you into the front entrance which itself leads into a bright internal hallway with plenty of space for coats and shoes to be neatly tucked away. A useful downstairs WC and shower room is hidden to the right.

Leading off the entrance hall is one of two living areas. A perfect spot nestled away from the rest of the downstairs living accommodation that could quite easily be turned into a cosy retreat or kids’ playroom. Moving further into the plan and you’ll see that the current configuration of the living spaces presents a fantastic opportunity to remodel, or simply update the current aesthetic to suit your own tastes. The large sitting and dining room is spacious and double doors connect the room out to the garden. A galley kitchen lies to the right with access to the rear.

However, one option could be to remove the adjoining walls of the kitchen and open the existing spaces to create a large open-plan kitchen/dining space. If your creative juices are still flowing, a rear extension could be on the cards (subject to the necessary consents of course!). Whatever your budget, there is the potential to create a showstopper of a living space here.

Moving upstairs, you’ll find three well-proportioned double bedrooms ready to be freshened up and brought back to life. They are all bright and airy with large windows that flood each room with plenty of natural light. The large master bedroom spans the width of the property with a peaceful outlook to the rear. It is fitted with wardrobes and a closet with the potential to turn it into an en-suite or a luxurious walk-in wardrobe. The family bathroom is sandwiched in the centre of the plan and is perfectly serviceable as is but has the potential to house a sleek modern suite for the whole family.

In our opinion the home is crying out for an extension, with the most logical position for this being at the rear. We’re imagining an expansive rear living space that combines areas for cooking, dining and relaxing, while also maximising access to the garden. There is also space on the side return that shouldn’t be ignored. The garden currently comprises of an area of paving with steps leading to a tiered area above. The garden is secluded with mature planting to the rear and side access.

Charming Cookham

Local life

Charming Cookham

Cookham is a beautifully picturesque village sat on the edge of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beaty and within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Just 5-minutes’ walk down the road is Cookham Station which offers regular rail services to London Paddington and Reading making this the ideal spot for commuting.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor pursuits. Locally, there is the green open space of Alfred Major Park. The Winter Hill Golf Club is just down the road and there are endless riverside walks along the Thames. A short drive north and you’ll find yourself within the stretch of quintessentially English countryside that is the Chilterns AONB. The area is awash with pubs, restaurants and historic villages and market towns.

Closer to home, Cookham offers all the local village amenities that you could want. A post office, village shops and a selection of bars and eateries. The all-important pubs are within walking distance, the current owner’s favourite is the award-winning gastropub, The White Oak.

The education options are excellent and Cookham is home to a number of highly rated schools. The Excellent rated Herries Nursery and Preparatory School caters for ages 2-11 while the Cookham Rise Primary is quite literally around the corner. Secondary schools in the nearby towns of Maidenhead, Bourne End and Marlow offer a fantastic choice for a growing family.
