Gemma thinks:
The quality of the workmanship across this property is stunning.

This beautifully proportioned three-bedroom house occupies a quiet location in the sought after outskirts of Marlow and has been lovingly updated by the current owners to create a charming and tastefully decorated home fit for the rigours of family life.

Gemma loves:
The mixture of characterful and luxury touches throughout.

Generously set back off this tree lined area of Seymour Court Road, a generous driveway sits at the front of the property and provides space for off-street parking and additional planting. The front door opens into a spacious porch with ample space to tidy away coats, shoes and mucky boots.

Internal accommodation extends to nearly 1,200 sq ft and is configured across two storeys. Downstairs, the main living room is spacious and airy, yet warm and inviting; a handsome fireplace centres the room with built in shelving and cabinetry lining the walls either side, ready to line with books and family photos. The living space flows seamlessly through to an additional dining space at the far end with space for the whole family to gather around the table. The dual-purpose room is bright and illuminated by a bay window to the front and glazed double doors that open directly onto the garden; as a result there is a wonderful sense of flow between indoors and out.

The kitchen sits just off the dining space and also benefits from views and direct access out to the garden. Cream painted cabinetry and a contrasting worktop wrap around the room to provide plenty of storage and counter space for cooking up a storm. A large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, gas hob and oven are all built in. The home has certainly been designed with the rigours of modern life in mind, with an additional utility room that doubles as a downstairs bathroom ensuring white goods are hidden away.

Moving back to the hallway, painted stairs with a sleek striped stair runner ascend to the upper floor and landing where you’ll find three good sized doubles. The largest of the bedrooms is the master suite, sitting at the left of the upstairs plan, with an almost hotel room like quality complete with en-suite, half-pannelled walls, shuttered windows and full-height and high quality built in wardrobes for storage. The second and third bedrooms enjoy views out to the front and rear respectively. Both are excellent sizes, ensuring no family feuds over a box room. The front bedroom benefits from excellent storage options while the back bedroom is peaceful and enjoys garden views.

The property is equiped with no less than three bathrooms, including the downstairs utility-come-shower room, an en suite off the master and a family bathroom servicing the further two bedrooms. The family bathroom is part tiled with a white suite, which includes a bath with overhead shower.

The South facing garden is wonderfully mature and secluded, a perfect green oasis from busy day-to-day life. Doors from the kitchen and dining room lead out to a large paved area which is the perfect spot for outdoor dining and beyond this lies an area laid to lawn, surrounded by established planting and trees that shelter and provide a beautiful sense of seclusion. There is even scope to extend the property further out into the garden, should you require additional living space. Planning permission is already in place for an expansive rear extension creating a vast open-plan kitchen/dining space with bi-fold doors out to the garden.

Friendly vibes

Marlow

Marlow is one of the original down-from-Londoners’ honeypots. Something about its pretty historic streets, and the dreaminess of the Thames hung heavy with weeping willows and boat clubs, has for centuries pulled in those sick of the Smoke – like Percy and Mary Shelley, probably after peace, quiet and a better work-life balance than they could get in the capital, with its streets running with ordure and don’t even talk to me about the cost of barouche-landaus. Legions have followed ever since.

The river is a big draw for legendary Olympians and mere mortals alike. — you may see Sir Steve Redgrave wandering along the banks watching the eager weekend rowers, paddle boarders and boaters. There’s a winning food scene led by Tom Kerridge’s Hand and Flowers, the only UK pub with two Michelin stars, and popular year-round events including the Marlow Regatta and Pub in the Park.

Marlow is unquestionably well heeled. Smart residents have an array of places to be seen and to see each other. The High Street is buzzing and the schools are sought after. There are sports clubs to join, parks to play in, bookshops to browse around and numerous places to buy champagne. Yes, this is a bustling town, yet you’re also in the heavenly walking territory of the Chiltern Hills where you can dare to get your Le Chameaus muddy.

If you’re concerned about schooling, Marlow has it covered. Sir William Borlase is a grammar school right in the centre of town and is renowned for its excellent education, along with Great Marlow School. The primary schools (Spinfield, Danesfield etc…) all have fantastic reputations along with the fine selection of public schools in the area.

Idyllic & postcard pretty

  • Closest village/town: Lots of pretty villages in The Chilterns
  • Post Office: 1
  • Stores: The High Street has some classic favourites as well as some smart independents.
  • Supermarket: No one goes to super markets anymore do they! It's all about delivery from Ocado right?
  • Pubs: Too many to mention. The Hand & Flowers is the best known but there is everything from Champagne bars to old school boozers
  • Walks: Endless countryside walks in the hills
